Dec/Jan American Craft features Molly Hatch

I just got the PDF of this article that I am featured in the December/January issue of American Craft Magazine. A real positive look at the intersection of craft and design and art. I had a great time doing the interview with Joyce Lovelace and am VERY flattered to be in the good company of so many other artist-designers I have long admired.

I am particularly happy that Simon Pearce mentions my first mentor and long time family friend Miranda Thomas

Potter Miranda Thomas carving a porcelain bowl in her Bridgewater, VT studio workshop

I worked in Miranda's Bridgewater, VT studio as a full time production potter for a year and half after graduating with my BFA in 2000. I had the privilege of working in the Cardew/Leach tradition in her studio as Miranda had apprenticed for both Michael Cardew and Alan Caiger-Smith. While I worked in the studio in Vermont, Ara Cardew--Michael Cardew's grandson--was my supervisor. I learned an enormous amount about how to run a business, be efficient and work with client's needs during my tenure at Miranda Thomas Pottery. I owe a huge amount of my success to my time there.
